Workshop on Supporting Transgender* Youth, April 15th, GOSHH, Limerick.
This is a one–day workshop for professionals who work with young people. It is aimed at increasing confidence and awareness when supporting or working with a young person identifying as Trans* or Non-Binary.
Over the last two years in particular there has been increased visibility of the issues affecting young people who identify as Trans*, and greater understanding of gender identity. One positive outcome of this is that more young people are coming out as Trans* and seeking support. It is likely that most organisations working with young people will find themselves supporting a Trans* young person at some point. This workshop will offer a safe space to explore what it means to identify as Trans*, best practice, and how to work with Trans* young people in an informed and respectful way. This will include an exploration of the new resource ‘Being LGBT in School’ being launched by GLEN, in conjunction with the Department of Education and Skills, which includes the first ever guidance for post-primary schools on supporting students who identify Transgender*.
The day will start at 9.30am and finish at 3.00pm.
Fee: €50. An early bird fee of €35 applies if you book and pay before 16th March.
