Thank you so much for your interest in leaving a legacy to the Red Ribbon Project. Your legacy can help us to continue to provide care and support for those living with HIV and also to provide education and information around sexual health and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Making a will
Even in what can seem to be the most straight forward circumstances, it is advisable to contact a solicitor to draw up your will so that your final wishes may be outlined in detail. You can purchase a do-it-yourself will-making kit from many stationers, but there is a risk that your will won’t convey what you would have hoped for. An example might be if it doesn’t allow for unexpected future circumstances.
Leaving a legacy
The main thing is to ensure your will includes our full name, registered office address and our registered charity number which are detailed below:
Red Ribbon Project Ltd.
18 Davis Street
Charity Number: CHY11363
There are a number of ways you can leave money to the Red Ribbon Project in your will:
- Pecuniary – this is a gift of a specific amount of money
- Residuary – this is a share of the remainder of your assets that you have not already given away
- Specific – this is a gift of a specific item
- A Codicil – this allows for if you have already made a will and you would like to give a gift to the Red Ribbon Project. You can request that your solicitor adds a codicil to your original will. A codicil has to be witnessed and signed in the same manner as your original will and should be kept alongside your original will.
In general, it is best if gifts are made unconditionally. This is due to the fact that it can be difficult to anticipate how things will be in the future. For example, if in a number of years from now we withdraw a current service and replaced it with a new service more suitable at that time, a binding condition in a legacy gift towards the original service could mean that the Red Ribbon Project may not be able to benefit from your legacy.
The Red Ribbon Project welcomes you to express your wishes for your legacy. If you would like your legacy to go towards a specific area of our work, we would ask that they are stated as a preference and not a condition. This is purely to help avoid any future problems which could have an outcome you would not have intended, please be assured that the Red Ribbon Project will do our very best to ensure that your wishes for your legacy are met.
